As a Vecteezy contributor, you have endless options in terms of the types of vectors, stock photos, and stock videos you can create and submit. This type of creative freedom is something our contributors love. However, when there are endless possibilities, sometimes it can be challenging to know what you should be creating.

In order to get the best results, you’ll need to create and submit the right types of resources that our users want to download. The key is to maximize the impact of your time and effort by knowing the types of resources that will get visibility, attract downloads, and ultimately earn money for you. Resources that attract a lot of downloads will become excellent sources of passive income, as they’ll continue to make money with no additional effort on your part.

Regardless of whether you’re an experienced contributor with thousands of resources already in your portfolio or a brand new contributor, creating the right content is important.

Here are some tips that can help you identify the specific types of resources you should be creating.

1. Use Our Contributor Calendar

Creating vectors, photos, or videos for specific holidays, events, and seasons can be a great way to gain exposure and get downloads. Many of our users arrive at Vecteezy looking for resources they can use in their own holiday-themed designs or materials. There’s a lot of demand for this type of content, and as a contributor, you can make money by meeting that demand.

We’ve created a contributor calendar that lists more than 60 different holidays, events, and seasons that could be the subject of the vectors, photos, and videos that you create. The calendar gives you ideas for content you can create in any month throughout the year. If you’re ever stuck trying to figure out what you should be creating, referring to this calendar is a great option.

2. Respond to Calls for Content

Each month, we publish a call for content to provide some direction for our contributors. The calls for content are published on our blog and they’re also sent to contributors by email. Each month, we’ll suggest some types of resources that contributors should be creating.

We base the recommendations on things like increasing demand from visitors, upcoming seasonal opportunities, and gaps that exist in our catalog of resources. If you follow this advice and create content based on our recommendations, you’ll give yourself the best chance to get exposure and ultimately make money as a Vecteezy contributor. We’re pointing you towards some of the right opportunities.

3. Work On a Themed Set

Instead of thinking of the resources that you create individually, try to think in terms of themes, groups, or series of resources. Creating collections of content or themed sets is a great way to increase the number of downloads, and ultimately, the amount of money that you make from our contributor program.

Themed sets can lead to more downloads because people who are interested in one of your resources are likely to be interested in others that are a part of the same set. You may have multiple resources that show up in search results for the same keyword or search phrase, visitors may find your resources through the related file recommendations, or they may browse your profile and come across a number of resources they like.

Creating themed sets is possible regardless of whether you’re a vector, photo, or video contributor. Vector contributors can design multiple icon packs with the same style, multiple marketing templates that match to form a set, web elements that are intended to go together, and much more. Photographers and videographers can use sessions to create multiple photos or videos with the same models and subjects to form a set, or focus on the same themes or topics.

Themed sets can also help by adding some continuity to your portfolio rather than simply having a large collection of random resources. Think about the way you want to brand yourself and what you want to be known for, and use themed sets to position yourself in this way.

4. Check Your Download Stats

If you’re an existing contributor and you’ve already uploaded some resources, be sure to check the stats in your contributor dashboard. You’ll be able to see how many times each resource in your portfolio has been downloaded.

Take a look at your resources that are generating the most downloads. Are you seeing any patterns or a particular type of resource that’s doing really well for you? If so, you should consider creating more resources that are similar or possibly different variations of those popular resources.

5. Check Out the Related Vectors/Photos/Videos

The download page for each resource also shows similar options in the related vectors, photos, or videos section (at the bottom). Take a look at the resources that are showing up as being related to your most popular resources. This may give you some ideas for other types of vectors, photos, and videos that you could create and add to your portfolio.

6. Focus on What You Do Best

As a designer, photographer, or videographer, you have your own unique strengths. Think about the things that you do well and brainstorm resources you could create that would utilize your strongest skills. A good way to stand out is to dedicate more of your time and effort to what you do best.

7. Browse the Profiles of Top Contributors for Ideas

Although you don’t want to copy the work of other contributors, you may find some inspiration as a result of browsing the resources they’ve created. The vectors, photos, and videos that you see may spark some creative ideas that you could pursue for your own unique resources.

There are a few different ways that you can find top contributors to observe. We frequently feature outstanding contributors on our blog and in our email newsletters. You can also check out the popular and trending resources on our home page, as well as the favorites that have been curated by Vecteezy team members. Many of those resources have been created by top contributors. And of course, if use Vecteezy regularly, you probably see some of the same contributors over and over again just through your normal use of the site.

Conclusion

Although Vecteezy contributors have endless resources they can create, that freedom can be daunting if you don’t know what you should be creating. Whenever you’re unsure about the types of content that you should be focusing on, turn to these tips and you’ll be led in a direction that makes effective use of your time and effort.
