We’re looking for content focused on the New Year!

A lot is happening right now – elections, awareness movements, and who can forget all of the holiday preparations. Plus, in a couple of months, we’ll be welcoming 2021. In Western cultures, the end of the year is traditionally celebrated based on the Georgian calendar, while many Asian countries such as China, Vietnam, and South Korea, traditionally celebrate the Lunar New Year in late January to early February.

Regardless of when we celebrate, many of us use the New Year as a milestone for changes, a new ray of hope for a better future, or even the beginning of new adventures and resolutions to ourselves. With holiday celebrations just around the corner, the Content Team at Vecteezy is seeking fresh New Year themed visuals from our contributor base. Be sure to keep these important dates in mind:

  • American Thanksgiving – Thursday, November 26, 2020
  • Hanukkah – Thursday, December 10, 2020
  • Christmas – Friday, December 25, 2020
  • Georgian calendar New Year – Friday, January 1, 2021
  • Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year) – Friday, February 12, 2021

While creativity has no limit, we suggest you focus your creative lens on the following topics across various content types (photos, vectors, and video):

  • Food and beverage themes are always a great choice and relatively accessible for contributors to capture or recreate. Consider the small details of dinner courses, celebrating a special moment with champagne, or the simplicity of a home-cooked meal with loved ones.
  • Parties, reunions, and festive activities are all great themes to explore for photo and video-based visuals. As always, remember to be demographically inclusive and consider current social distancing and face-covering regulations.
  • Concepts such as renewal, rebirth, rejuvenation, or visuals that capture or interpret “a new chapter” are all good themes to explore for photo and video. For example, opening a book, sliding open a window, and the opening of a model’s eyes are all good examples of these concepts. You can also use the opposite of each example to signify the end of the year or the closing of a chapter.
  • Focusing on visual keys such as confetti, trumpets, and sparkles in metallic colors can add an element of luxury – the New Year and Lunar New Year celebrations are usually portrayed as fancy and luxurious with over-the-top celebrations, gifts, and purchases.
  • The New Year also brings resolutions and goal setting. Consider designing templates of calendars, day planners or journals, and to-do-lists, as these designs are in high demand at this time of year.
  • Create supporting marketing materials such as seasonal greeting kits, or sales kits (greeting cards, party invitations, web banners, coupons, etc). This type of content will always be in high demand.
  • Remember to finish off your designs by incorporating bold colors – ultramarine blues and greens, burgundy, magenta, purple, gold, red, and even white. Using deep and rich colors will help your designs connect with various cultural traditions and themes.
  • Also be sure to consider colors that accentuate prosperity such as greens, yellows, and silvers.
  • To make your artwork different and unique, consider using supporting shades of colors such as emerald green or saffron yellow.

The design community’s connection to all things nostalgic is unlikely to fade anytime soon. Neon design aesthetics tie in nicely with throwback motifs, particularly those from the 80s, and there’s a growing demand for glaring signage and backgrounds, neon anchored with dark backgrounds, or even reinterpretations of pop culture trademarks and icons. This trend is meant to be bold, bright, and definitely a bit rebellious. That’s just part of the draw for creatives using neon in their design projects.

From quiet portraits to thoughtful conceptual photos, this content gap is an opportunity for our contributors to stand out and showcase their creativity. What can you add to our collection that hasn’t been seen or done before? We want to see it!

Video Portraits

Just like its title suggests, a video portrait is a simple portrait of a subject that offers natural movement without distracting the viewer. Video portraits are useful for a number of reasons. In the most simple cases, they allow the audience to identify with both the individual and the subject matter. Additionally, they can be inserted into almost any project as a way to connect with a person while a narrator speaks. We are looking for natural, authentic expressions that involve people looking into the lens for a few seconds. They should not be making exaggerated expressions or hand movements, and the portraits should be exceptionally well shot and captured.
